BMW E46 M3 Sound Clips
Performance Gains
This is
perhaps the most difficult to measure and most
exaggerated area of impact an exhaust
can have. Only by doing your OWN before &
after DYNO runs (multiple runs w/average) can you
begin to get a true assessment of what positive (or
negative) impact your aftermarket exhaust has had on
your M3.
For the less serious owner, I suggest the Butt Dyno.
If your cart feels faster based on your butt when
you drive with a new exhaust , then it is faster -
simple as that.
Materials
As a
general rule, the exhausts on here are made from one
of two materials. Titanium or Stainless Steel.
Titanium is regarded for it's higher lighter weight
and a perceived crispness to the tone of Titanium
over Stainless Steel. Both finishes are
typically highly polished.
Weight
The
Titanium exhausts on average weight 20% less than
their stainless steel counterpart and weigh as much
as 65% less than stock! With the stock exhaust
weigh in excess of 53lbs, a 17lb titanium exhaust is
a significant drop. Some stainless steel
exhausts weigh nearly the same as stock while others
are 30-40% lighter.
Sound
Describing
sound is as difficult as describing a taste, smell
or color. Like all of the other senses, you
simply have to hear for yourself to decide if a
particular exhaust is right for you. Listen to
all of the clips and save off your 'favorites' to
narrow your search.
Appeal
People buy
exhausts for different reasons, weight, material,
shape of tips, availability, etc. There are
many reasons why someone may choose one exhaust over
another.
Price New
Were
possible, prices have been shopped at several
retailers and an average given. Please email
us if we are missing a price and you know where to
find it or how much it is.
Price Used
Finding
'Used' prices was easy. The used prices
reflect averages of what people were asking on
several boards, they do NOT reflect the 'low-ball'
offers an owner may have been offered.
